With only one league match remaining in their schedule, the 2022-23 season is almost over for Real Madrid. As the season comes to an end, the club will become more occupied with the transfers and assembling their squad for the next season.

After having lost out on La Liga and Champions League glory in the season, further sorrow awaits Real Madrid fans in the transfer window. This is because different news outlets, including ESPN and Mario Cortegana, are reporting that, Real Madrid’s elite striker, Karim Benzema, has decided to leave the club.

These reports claim that the Frenchman will join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad after his current contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of this month.

While more details about his contract with the Saudi Arabian side are not yet known, ESPN reports that the Saudi side had previously offered Benzema a two-year contract, worth €400 million this January.

While these reports are yet to be confirmed, it is looking increasingly likely that the Frenchman will be leaving Los Blancos this summer. Benzema arrived at Real Madrid in 2009, during the second Galacticos era, and has been at the club for 14 seasons.

In these seasons, he scored 353 goals and won 24 trophies, including 5 Champions League titles, 5 La Liga titles, 1 Ballon d’Or, and 1 UEFA The Best Player in Europe Award.

Benzema has been the undisputed striker for Real Madrid for a number of seasons now, and his departure would certainly leave a vacuum at the club. However, to mitigate the impacts of this loss, the club is looking towards a number of options in this summer window, including Harry Kane and Robert Firmino.

If the reports of him leaving Real Madrid are true, Benzema would be leaving a highly impactful legacy behind at the club. His fans and followers will be hoping the next chapter in his career would be just as fruitful as his career at Real Madrid and Olympique Lyonnais.
