There are only a few weeks left till the current season ends, and Real Madrid, like other clubs across Europe, are already planning their moves in the upcoming summer transfer window.
A lot of the club’s energy will be taken by the high-profile operations involving Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies. However, there are also other tasks that the Merengues are looking to fulfill before the next season starts.
There are up to six players, Modric, Kroos, Lucas Vazquez, Nacho, Kepa, and Joselu, whose contracts are running out this summer, and this is one area that Real Madrid will have to work on in the coming months.
Of these six, only Kepa is certain to depart the club, as his loan period will end, and the futures of the other five players are still highly uncertain. According to Mundo Deportivo, there are two players whose renewal the Merengues are particularly prioritizing this summer.
Firstly, there is Lucas Vazquez, who is valued highly both by the club and by Carlo Ancelotti. His versatility has been a potent weapon for the Italian tactician, and he has also almost always delivered whenever Ancelotti has put him on the pitch. His performance against Barcelona was one of his best in a Real Madrid shirt.
Thus, Real Madrid are considering his renewal to be a matter of high urgency, and negotiations between the two parties are expected to reach their climax soon. The player himself will also push to stay at the club.
The second player whose renewal Real Madrid are seeing as a matter of high priority is Andriy Lunin, whose current contract goes only till 2025.
The Ukrainian has been one of the most important players for Carlo Ancelotti in the last few matches, and he has been key for Real Madrid as they have advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Previously, Real Madrid were giving the goalkeeper complete freedom to choose the course of his future. However, the Royal Whites are now pushing him for a renewal, as they believe he can be a competent replacement for Courtois.
However, for this operation, the Merengues will have to deal with Jorge Mendes, whom Lunin recently appointed as his representative.
