The current international break has been ruinous for Real Madrid as they have lost two of their most valued players. First, Eduardo Camavinga was injured while on duty with France, and now Vinicius Junior has also suffered a thigh injury while playing for Brazil.
The mercurial winger was subbed off in a World Cup qualifying match against Colombia, which the Selecao lost 2-1. Vinicius returned to Real Madrid after suffering the injury, and the club has undertaken detailed tests on their player. The official statement from Real Madrid after the tests was:
“Following tests carried out today on our player Vinicius Jr. by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a tear in his left femoral bicep which is affecting the tendon in his hamstring. His recovery will be monitored.”
Sources indicate that this latest injury suffered by Vinicius Junior is more serious than the one he suffered in his other leg earlier, which kept him out of action between August and September this year.
Vinicius Junior has been one of the key players for Carlo Ancelotti this season, and he has six goals and four assists to his name in all competitions. The winger had his spirits high even after the injury, as he posted on his social media with the words: “We will come back stronger”.
Ancelotti’s side will miss the Brazilian winger quite a bit in their upcoming matches, as they are also without other attackers like Arda Guler. Madrid will have to keep on getting results, as they are currently two points behind the leaders, Girona, and are being closely followed by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
Players like Joselu and Brahim Diaz will have to step up in the Brazilian’s absence, at least till the time when Vinicius Junior returns to the field.
