The name of Kylian Mbappé has been tied with Real Madrid since his breakout season. In the summer of 2022, Los Blancos were close to signing him but a last-minute intervention from the French president and some other factors led Mbappé to renew with the Parisian club.
There were rumors linking Mbappe with Real Madrid circulating in the summer of 2023 as well, though not as concrete as before. But from now on – January 2024 – with less than six months left on his contract, Kylian is free to negotiate with the club of his choice without any legal consequences.
Earlier, the only clubs that seemed to be involved in this saga were Real Madrid and PSG but now, Liverpool has also emerged as a possible destination for the Frenchman.
French outlet Le Parisien has named Liverpool as one of the candidates to pursue Mbappé, along with Real Madrid, while also not ruling out a possible renewal with PSG.
The English club has always desired to sign the World Cup winner. Jürgen Klopp already wanted Mbappé during the initial phase of his career at AS Monaco and also before his latest renewal at PSG.
“We laugh about it”, Klopp said, when there was talk of a possible loan till the end of the season, this past summer. Kylian Mbappe would come for free, however, at a very hefty signing bonus said to be in the range of €130 million and a salary of €26 million per year.
These are figures that Liverpool are not historically known to pay. However, a player of Mbappe’s caliber may lead them to change their mind.
On the contrary, Real Madrid want him but will not wait forever. Los Blancos will reportedly send the contract this month – with the above-mentioned figures – and set a deadline of 15th January for the Frenchman’s response.
In case of no response or Kylian not accepting the terms of the contract, the Merengues will end their pursuit of Mbappé.
Despite Mbappé’s desire to don the white jersey, he does not seem to have made his decision yet. Real Madrid have waited too long now and this may be his last chance to join his childhood dream club, as the train will not pass by again.
