Real Madrid completed yet another comeback as they came from 1-0 down to a 2-1 victory at the Estadio Gran Canaria against Las Palmas. The win also took the Merengues to the top of the table, having a 2-point lead over Girona after 21 games each.
The men in white had a lackluster 1st half and it was visible that they had problems scoring without their talisman, Jude Bellingham who was suspended for this fixture. The Las Palmas defense showed resilience against Vinícius and Rodrygo and did not let them create any major chances.
In the 53rd minute, Sandro Ramirez put in a low cross inside the box – also past Rüdiger – to find Javi Muñoz who tapped the ball in from close range. The shot was a quick one and Lunin was unable to react on time. From there on, another comeback had to be completed.
After going behind, Real Madrid created some major chances but were unable to find the net until the 64th minute, as Camavinga chipped the ball inside the box to find Vinícius and the Brazilian made a tidy finish to equalize.
Thereafter, the Merengues were relentless and continued to attack and find spaces inside the box. Carlo Ancelotti made two substitutions in the final stretch of the game.
The substitution of Tchouaméni paid off, as the Frenchman headed in a goal from a Toni Kroos corner in the 84th minute of the match. This was Tchouaméni’s second goal in the white shirt, with the first coming against Girona. Both goals have happened to be from a corner and a header.
Arda Güler had a chance to score from a counterattack in stoppage time but took a heavy touch inside the box, with the goalkeeper clearing the ball in time and preventing the danger.
The European giants take a 2-point lead over the Catalan club with the same number of games. Girona take on Celta Vigo and it will be interesting to see whether they can head to a victory after getting knocked out of the Copa Del Rey. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will play Getafe away from home in 5 days time.
