A brace from Joselu secured a vital victory for Real Madrid at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, as the men in white sit at the top of the table with a 2-point lead over Girona – with the same number of matches played.

This was Madrid’s game in hand as this fixture was previously postponed due to the Spanish Super Cup and the Merengues made use of the opportunity with the win to reclaim the top spot.

The Merengues dominated from the start and in the 14th minute, an inch-perfect cross from Lucas Vazquez was headed into the net by Joselu, showcasing his aerial ability.

There was an injury scare as well when Rüdiger was substituted at half-time but according to Carlo Ancelotti, the German is expected to be fit for the Madrid derby three days away.

Getafe were not able to create much other than a chance in the 51st minute which fell to Mason Greenwood, whose shot hit the post.

Joselu doubled the lead after a fine pass from Vinícius. The Spaniard was given a chance instead of Rodrygo and he made the most of it by netting a brace and leading the team to victory.

Vinícius missed a couple of great chances, one of being a counter attack, when Joselu set the Brazilian up, only for him to chip the ball straight to Soria from close range. This was also a chance for Joselu to complete his hat trick.

Lunin showed why he is preferred over Kepa at the moment when he made up for a mistake he made after he saved Borja Mayoral’s good strike at the goal.

Aurelien Tchouaméni got a controversial yellow card in stoppage time. The play was called offside and Madrid are expected to appeal for the yellow card because according to the rules, a player cannot be booked after the play has been called offside.

Currently, the Frenchman is on a yellow card and if the decision is upheld, he will miss the crucial game against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, with Real Madrid already missing several defenders, including David Alaba and Eder Militao.

Next up, Real Madrid will come up against Atletico Madrid and Girona, which could turn out to be the title-deciding fixtures. The men in white do not have much time to relax as they now have to prepare for the Madrid derby three days away.
