The left-back position at Real Madrid has been in a state of flux for the last few years. Ferland Mendy is currently the clear starter at the left flank for Real Madrid, even though the Merengues incorporated Fran Garcia in the last summer transfer window.

Further changes are expected in this position in the coming transfer window, as Real Madrid have been closely linked with the Bayern Munich fullback, Alphonso Davies, in the last few months.

The Canadian is one of the best players in his position, and despite the recent decline in his form, he will be expected to be the clear starter for Real Madrid if he arrives at the Spanish club this summer.

In such a scenario, the player who loses the most will clearly be Ferland Mendy, who will be relegated to the second spot in the pecking order. With his contract expiring in 2025, him departing from the club this summer if Davies joins would not be a possibility too far removed from reality.

In fact, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the player is already generating a lot of interest from several big European sides. Manchester United and Chelsea from the Premier League want him to strengthen their defences ahead of the next season, while Mendy has also been linked with Bayern Munich and AC Milan.

This season, the Frenchman has made 20 La Liga appearances and 6 Champions League appearances and has been an integral part of Ancelotti’s defence. He had to miss six games at the start of the season with a muscle injury, a problem that he has frequently suffered from throughout his Real Madrid career.

Currently, the defender is valued at €20 million, but his high demand in the market might allow him to leave for a higher amount than this. However, his contract has only one year left, which leaves Real Madrid’s bargaining position significantly weaker, and the Merengues might have to sell him for a sum lower than the €48 million they paid for him back in 2019.
