As the team is still competing in two key competitions this season, i.e. the UEFA Champions League and La Liga, Real Madrid cannot yet focus their attention fully on the upcoming summer transfer window.

However, one can already reasonably expect the coming summer to be one of frenetic activity for the Merengues, especially as they will be looking to finalize the transfer of one of their long-awaited targets, Kylian Mbappe.

Another player who has been reported to be on Madrid’s agenda for this summer in the past few months is the Bayern Munich fullback, Alphonso Davies. Being one of the most explosive fullbacks in the world, the Canadian will be a significant addition to the Merengues’ squad.

However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, his arrival can also cause significant problems for Real Madrid.

Ferland Mendy, who has a contract till 2025 with Real Madrid, is one of the untouchable players for Carlo Ancelotti, and deservedly so with his superb defensive performances in some of the biggest matches for the club this season. Thus, Ancelotti is looking forward to a renewal of the Frenchman.

Davies’ contract with Bayern Munich also ends in 2025, but as there has yet not been an agreement between the player and the club for a renewal, the Bavarians can put him up for sale in the coming summer.

Thus, if Real Madrid end up signing up the Canadian this summer, Mendy will find himself to be in very choppy waters. Davies would join Madrid only to be a starter, and his arrival would open the doors for Mendy’s sale, irrespective of Ancelotti’s wishes to retain him.

In fact, the Frenchman has already received offers from the Premier League, Ligue 1, and Serie A. Bayern Munich are also considering him to be their own replacement for Davies.

The coming days will provide more clarity on how Mendy’s future at Madrid is going to pan out. However, what is clear for now is that Davies’ arrival this summer will almost surely mean the departure of the Frenchman from the club.
