Real Madrid boast a world-class midfield with a mix of experience and young blood. One of their midfielders, Eduardo Camavinga, has proven to be an all-around important player, capable of playing in multiple positions.
The Frenchman has played in all positions in the midfield and also as a left-back when needed. For a player who offers so many options, alarm bells went off at the Real Madrid offices, as Camavinga left the field in France’s 3-2 win against Chile after discomfort in his left ankle.
However, as noted by Mundo Deportivo, the problem was not as serious as initially feared. The player underwent tests upon his arrival from international duty, and the reports indicate that it is just a minor sprain.
Furthermore, if his recovery progresses well between now and Sunday, the midfielder could be included in the squad for the upcoming La Liga fixture against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
Eduardo Camavinga’s performance this season has been inconsistent, with moments of brilliance followed by some below-par outings. One notable example from the latter category of games is the second leg against RB Leipzig at home, where the Frenchman was substituted at half-time.
Despite his inconsistencies, Camavinga has remained a pivotal part of the squad. He has been an able replacement in the defensive midfielder position whenever his compatriot, Aurelien Tchouameni, starts as a center-back.
As far as his injury is concerned and as Carlo Ancelotti has made clear with not only Camavinga but multiple players in the squad, no risks would be taken whatsoever, especially with their next opponents being Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
Hopes at the club are high that his recovery will be swift, especially since all the players have returned from international duty and begun their preparations for the game against Athletic Bilbao.
