Real Madrid have added another prestigious trophy to their cabinet as they are now officially the La Liga 2023-24 champions. This marks the 36th time that the Madrid club has won the biggest trophy in Spain, extending their lead at the top to 9, as the second-placed Barcelona have 27 La Liga titles to their name.

The Merengues’ title triumph was confirmed after Barcelona fell to a 4-2 defeat to Girona, while the Los Blancos themselves had got the full three points earlier on the night with a convincing 3-0 victory over the relegation-threatened Cadiz.

As things stand, there are still four games left to be played in the league. However, as the Merengues enjoy a 13-point advantage over second-placed Girona and a 14-point advantage over third-placed Barcelona, their La Liga triumph is already mathematically secured.

While Real Madrid fans will especially enjoy the significant advantage they have over their bitter rivals in Catalonia, they can also see their team go on to reach a historic milestone as Carlo Ancelotti’s side can reach 99 points in this campaign, which would be the second-highest total in their history.

After the first few matchdays, few Real Madrid fans could have imagined their team getting such a dominant triumph in the league. The Merengues had seen their key players like Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois relegated to the sidelines with almost season-long injuries, while David Alaba also followed them to the infirmary a few weeks later.

However, despite these losses, Los Blancos were able to keep up their form in the league, and faced only one defeat in the entire campaign, at the hands of their cross-town rivals, Atletico Madrid. Since that defeat, Real Madrid have extended their unbeaten streak to 28 matches in La Liga.

Carlo Ancelotti deserves full credit for such a wonderful league campaign, while also keeping his team alive in the UEFA Champions League. Under his tutelage, the squad showed their traditional grit, resilience, and fighting spirit, even though the football on display was not always the most attractive.

Players like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Antonio Rudiger, Fede Valverde, Andriy Lunin, Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Carvajal, and Toni Kroos, all deserve full accolades for pulling the team towards this achievement, while other stars like Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo Goes, Ferland Mendy, and Nacho were also vital in this success.

Bench players like Brahim Diaz, Joselu, Luka Modric, and Lucas Vazquez, also made some key contributions throughout the league season.

With this title, Carlo Ancelotti has now two La Liga trophies to his name with Real Madrid, after having already won the Spanish Super Cup earlier in the season.

Now, he will be looking to lead his team to another victory in the upcoming crucial game against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and hopefully add another UCL title to his already illustrious resume.
