Valverde 8.0, Vazquez 7.0 | Las Palmas 1-1 Real Madrid: Player ratings

Date:

Real Madrid drop yet another two points away from home, this time against a resilient Las Palmas side.

In fact, the home side could have secured a win if their goal in the 88th minute was not ruled out.

There’s still a long way to go, but Madrid need to get their act together as the league table is slowly and gradually beginning to take shape.

The following ratings reflect how the Real Madrid players fared in this match.

Player ratings:

Thibaut Courtois: 6.5

A fairly quiet night for the Belgian. Could not have done much about the opening goal. Made a few saves and clearances to keep Madrid in it.

Lucas Vazquez: 7.0

One of the few bright spots in the game was his performance. The Spaniard won his duels and almost assisted Vinicius, which ultimately led to a penalty. Defensively looked solid as well

Eder Militao: 5.5

A poor performance from the Brazilian. He could have done better to prevent the first goal. Made a few clearances but nothing much of significance. Got a yellow late in the game and was on the verge of getting a second one.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7.0

Not quite a “Rüdiger-esque” performance, in all honesty. Despite losing the ball in awkward positions, the German was quick to recover. Had a crack at goal and almost scored a stunner.

Ferland Mendy: 6.0

Marked his player solidly but did not do much right other than that. Blew hot and cold throughout the first half and was rightfully substituted at halftime.

Fede Valverde: 8.0

The best Real Madrid player on the night. Was all over the pitch and was on the verge of scoring yet another free kick. Defensively was solid and made some good attacking runs inside the box. In all the chaos, it seems like the Uruguayan does deserve his idol’s iconic number 8 shirt after all.

Aurelien Tchouaméni: 6.5

Not a bad display – nor too good – from the Frenchman. Had the most touches for any player in this match. Mostly accurate with his passes but sometimes too wayward. He would hope to put in a better performance next time around.

Luka Modric: 6.5

Replaced Arda Güler in the starting lineup and also captained the side. Held his ground well and made 4 key passes. But his age showed as the game went on and ultimately was taken off in the 64th minute for the Turk.

Brahim Díaz: 6.0

The Moroccan was unable to make the most of this chance given to him as a starter. It seems like he would be more threatening as a substitute late on in the game. Caught in two minds to make the final pass and hence was caught out by the Las Palmas defence. Soon replaced by Rodrygo at halftime.

Kylian Mbappe: 6.5

Another goalless game for the Frenchman. Completed the most dribbles in the match but also took as many as 9 shots at goal with only 2 on target. Almost scored in the dying moments of the game but the finish let him down.

Vinícius Júnior: 7.0

The Brazilian’s goal is what ultimately kept Real Madrid in the game and prevented a shameful defeat. Had 2 out of 4 shots on target, and won 6 duels. But he knew he could have made more of an impact on the game when he was substituted.

Substitutes:

Fran García: 7.0

Put on a better show than Ferland Mendy as a left-back and proved that he is a better attacking option as compared to the Frenchman. Made a few tackles and put in some healthy crosses inside the box.

Rodrygo: 7.0

Perhaps the most in form attacking player after Brahim in the side. Came off the bench at halftime. Had a crack at goal, won his duels but his decision making could have been better.

Arda Güler: 7.5

The Turk had yet another good outing. Almost recorded an assist if Mbappe’s position was better. Earned Real Madrid’s penalty and was a bright spot.

Dani Carvajal: 6.5

Came on for Vazquez in the 2nd half. Played high upfront but was left stranded because the right wing was left empty at times, leaving just him and Fede on that side.

Endrick: N/A

Did not have a major influence on the game in his 10-minute cameo other than his first touch being a wayward shot at goal.
