After having been linked with the French forward Kylian Mbappe for years, Real Madrid look increasingly likely to sign the object of their desires this coming summer.
The Frenchman’s contract with PSG is going to end this summer, and there have been very strong reports that he is not going to extend this contract with the Parisians. And with Mbappe’s and Real Madrid’s interest in one another already known to everyone, he is naturally being strongly linked with the Merengues.
In fact, the two sides have already been reported to have signed a contract which will make the Frenchman a Real Madrid player for the next five years.
However, as MARCA has noted, the player himself was not being too revealing about where his future lies, as he talked to the press along with his French national team coach, Didier Deschamps, ahead of the friendly against Germany.
As was expected, the winger faced several questions about his future club even though he is currently training with his national team. But, Mbappe was not willing to talk too much about this matter as he replied to a question about his future destination:
“I have nothing to announce… The day I have something to say… I’ll say it… Our goal is to stay focused on all competitions. My future is irrelevant.”
However, he gave a very strong hint about his future when he was asked whether his uncertain club future would impact his performance for France at the UEFA EURO 2024, as he said:
“I will be focused on the French national team when the Euro comes around. I think it will be resolved by then.”
There were reports that the French President, Emmanuel Macron, had gotten involved to stop his signing for Real Madrid in previous years. However, the Frenchman was clear that even pressure from the highest levels would not impact him much:
“Have you seen me affected? I’m always focused on what happens on the field. I’m not responsible for what’s said outside.”
The European Cup is scheduled to kick off on 14th June this summer, and Real Madrid fans will definitely be hoping that his move can be finalized by then, so the club can work on other operations in the remaining months of the transfer window.
