Real Madrid got another victory in La Liga and extended their winning streak to four wins in the league with last night’s victory over Alaves. With this win, the Merengues have also extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to 39 games.
Getting the three points against Alaves was not an easy task. Los Blancos got to a relatively easier start, as Lucas Vazquez scored in the very first minute of the game before Kylian Mbappe doubled their lead in the first half. Rogrygo added another goal, but Alaves scored two quick goals in the last phase of the game, and this match could well have been a draw.
The defensive lapses that led to these two goals would definitely be a concern for Ancelotti. But another concern for the Italian tactician would have been the situation of Kylian Mbappe.
As MARCA has reported, the Frenchman asked for a substitution in the 80th minute as he suffered discomfort. He is expected to undergo tests on this issue today and tomorrow, and his situation could be a worrisome subject for Ancelotti five days before the Madrid derby.
However, Ancelotti assured the press that Mbappe is not suffering from any serious issue as he addressed a press conference after the game. Thus, his presence in the Madrid derby might not be in doubt.
Along with Valverde, Mbappe is the only player to have played all the matches for Real Madrid in this season up to now. He was expected to be rested in this game against Alaves in view of the upcoming derby, but he still started and played a major part of the game.
It is easy to understand why Ancelotti is unwilling to keep Mbappe out of a game as the Frenchman is now on a four-game scoring streak in the league.
