After a rather slow start to life at Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe seems to be finally picking up the pace. After breaking his shackles in the match against Real Betis, the French forward has now scored in the last four games, three of which came in La Liga and one in the UEFA Champions League.

His latest striker came at the very last moments of the match against Espanyol, as he converted a penalty won by Endrick. He had several other chances to score in that match but was unable to do so.

But this goal from the penalty spot could be quite important for Mbappe as SPORT reports that with this strike, the Frenchman has four La Liga goals to his name. He has now caught up to Robert Lewandowski in La Liga and thus is the joint leader of this Pichichi race.

However, it should be kept in mind that Lewandowski still has one game in hand, as Barcelona are yet to play their match against Villarreal on matchday 6 of La Liga.

The Pole had won the Pichichi during his first season in Spain, in the 2022-23 season, and will be once again looking to take this honour. On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe has won the top-scorers award for the last six years in Ligue 1, and he will also be looking to keep his winning streak alive after joining Real Madrid.

Artem Dovbyk, the Pichichi winner last season, is no longer playing in La Liga, and thus these two superstars are the favourites to win this award at the end of the season.

In addition to Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior is also one of the 9 players standing joint-second in the current Pichichi rankings. The ranking of the candidates for the award stands as follows:

  1. Robert Lewandowski (FC Barcelona) 4
  2. Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid) 4
  3. Raphinha Dias (FC Barcelona) 3
  4. Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) 3
  5. Dani Olmo (FC Barcelona) 3
  6. Ayoze Pérez (Villarreal) 3
  7. Javi Puado (Espanyol) 3
  8. Borja Iglesias (Celta) 3
  9. Oihan Sancet (Athletic) 3
  10. Sandro Ramírez (Las Palmas) 3
  11. Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid) 3
