With the transfer window ended, Real Madrid are now focusing on the renewals as they continue with their efforts to ensure they have a highly competitive team in place for years to come.
Some weeks ago, the Merengues officially announced the renewal of one of their goalkeepers, Andriy Lunin, who is expected to remain in the starting lineup for the upcoming match against Villarreal as Thibaut Courtois is out with an abductor injury.
Now, as MARCA has reported, Los Blancos have completed another renewal, that of the youngster Joan Martinez. The new contract for the defender was signed in an official ceremony at the Valdebebas today, where the defender was accompanied by his brother, Javier Coso, who is also his agent, and his parents.
With this new contract, the terms of the youngster’s stay at Real Madrid have improved considerably. This renewal will keep him at the club till 2026, and he will have a release clause of over €50 million. Furthermore, he also has an agreement with the club to further extend his stay and get first-team status once he turns 18 years of age.
The two parties had been negotiating this contract since August, and an agreement was reached on 12th September. With this renewal officially signed, Real Madrid have now secured one of the biggest sensations from their youth system.
Martinez had also been able to impress with the first team in the preseason, and Ancelotti was also convinced to give him some opportunities to play under him this season.
However, these plans were disrupted by his torn cruciate ligament of the left knee. Fortunately, this injury has not changed the club’s plans regarding his renewal after his spectacular rise last summer. This injury is expected to keep him out of action for some time, but hopefully, he will come back even stronger when he recovers.
