Real Madrid significantly strengthened their forward line in the last summer transfer window with the addition of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick. Both these players have already been playing at a high level for the Merengue team.

However, no other areas of the team were reinforced, and the defence and the midfield were left in a weakened state with the departures of Nacho Fernandez and Toni Kroos. The problems in defence are already being a headache for Ancelotti, and Real Madrid have been linked with several defenders in recent times.

One of the most notable of these defenders is the Liverpool fullback, Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract with the Merseyside club is expiring next year, and the two parties have yet to arrive at an agreement for a renewal.

His contractual situation makes him an enticing target for clubs that are looking for such a market opportunity. This is particularly the case for Real Madrid, who have been linked with him for quite some time now.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Englishman appeared in an interview with The Athletic recently, and one of his comments could significantly heighten Real Madrid’s spirits in pursuit of the fullback. The Champions League winner with Liverpool talked about his aspirations of winning trophies:

“I want to win trophies. I’m a player who is very motivated by winning things and being at the elite level. That’s probably the main factor in everything. If you have an elite personality, one that wants to win and will do anything to win, then that’s what drives them.”

As Real Madrid have made it clear over the years, there is no side better at winning trophies than the Merengues. Only in the last season, they won a La Liga and UEFA Champions League double, and are once again competing for all the possible trophies this season.

Thus, the €70 million-rated Alexander-Arnold will definitely be attracted by the idea of playing for Real Madrid, especially as Los Blancos only have Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, two rather ageing players, playing at the right-back position.
