Although Real Madrid still have the all-important UEFA Champions League final yet to play, the Merengues are already planning for the next season, and there are several changes expected in the squad.
For instance, the Brazilian striker Endrick is set to join the Spanish club this summer, while the likelihood of the White club at last signing Kylian Mbappe this summer is also getting stronger with each passing day.
Meanwhile, several players are also expected to depart from the club, with the futures of Nacho Fernandez, Luka Modric, Joselu, Dani Ceballos, and Arda Guler far from certain at Real Madrid.
Another player who belongs to this latter list is Toni Kroos, who is also in the last year of his contract, and according to Mundo Deportivo, his situation is becoming a source of concern for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid have already put a year-long extension on the table for the German maestro, and the club was almost sure that they will have Kroos with them for the next year. However, doubts have now started creeping up as there are rumors suggesting that the midfielder will retire after playing in the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 this summer.
For his part, Kroos has not made any comments about his future and is waiting for a meeting with Florentino Perez to make a decision in this regard. The German midfielder is not keen on having a role similar to the one Modric played this season, where he was mostly a substitute rather than a regular starter, and this is one of the reasons the German is having doubts about his future.
Carlo Ancelotti, and Real Madrid at large, do not want the midfielder to leave, mainly because he is one of the key components of the team, and brings balance to a midfield that is otherwise made up of young players. Ancelotti wants the German to have the same role next season as he had this season, and also wants him to be present as Real Madrid makes the transition in their midfield.
But if ultimately Kroos decides to leave the Merengues, the club is not planning to sign another player as his replacement, and this is also the case with Luka Modric.
