Dani Carvajal’s injury in the match between Real Madrid and Villarreal can have very serious implications for the Merengues. The Spaniard is not only one of the most important leaders of the current dressing room but also one of the key parts of Ancelotti’s backline.

With Carvajal out, Real Madrid have only Lucas Vazquez to play at the right-back position, a player who has adapted to this position only a few seasons ago.

There is no doubt that this is a very alarming situation for Los Blancos, and Real Madrid also understands the implications that it can have for their season. Thus, MARCA reports that three very important decision-makers at the club, Jose Angel Sanchez, Carlo Ancelotti, and Santiago Solari, undertook a meeting this week to analyse the situation of the squad.

The coaching and the sporting departments of the white club are in constant communication, but in this meeting, these three individuals discussed several topics related to the squad, especially that of the injured players in defence, and their replacements. They also analysed the various options available to them, within the team, in the youth system, and in the market.

Carlo Ancelotti was clear that the team needed strengthening. This is not only because of the injuries suffered by some of the most important players but also because of the high minutes that these important players are accumulating, leading to fatigue.

There was a consensus in this meeting regarding the need to strengthen the squad, and this analysis will now be communicated to Florentino Perez. The Real Madrid President has been the most reluctant to make moves in the winter market, which has been one of the factors that have kept the Merengues from adding new players in the last six winter windows.

The Italian coach has not made any demands for new signings as such, but he believes that the team’s pursuit of its objectives for the season can be jeopardised with the situation of his backline. Now, Perez will have to make the final decision on whether new players will be incorporated in January, or Ancelotti will keep the same squad for the rest of the season.
