Real Madrid begin their UEFA Champions League 2024-25 campaign tomorrow with a match against the German side Stuttgart. The Merengues will be going into this game with their spirits quite high after their last two wins against Real Betis and Real Sociedad.
As is the custom for Champions League matches, a Real Madrid player speaks to the press before the head coach takes to the microphones. For this match, it was the team’s second captain, Dani Carvajal, who took the stage and answered the press’ questions about himself and his team.
The Spaniard has already reached 32 years of age, and as is the custom at Real Madrid, he will be offered only a single-year contract extension from now on. As MARCA has reported, he was also questioned about this issue in the presser, and told the press that such a formula was satisfactory for him:
“The one in charge is the club, and the president is the one who has to plan the squads. The club’s conditions for a player of a certain age are to renew year by year. I have no problems with that, as long as my performance, desire, and level continue to be enough to keep winning titles with Real Madrid.”
Further commenting on this topic, the fullback said:
“My idea is to stay here as long as possible, but always being realistic. The moment I don’t see myself at a sufficient level, I will step aside. That’s the criteria I base myself on, as long as the club wants to count on my services.”
Dani Carvajal had the 2023-24 season as one of his best years in professional football, as he won the La Liga and UEFA Champions League double with Real Madrid before also winning the UEFA EURO 2024 with Spain.
He also played an integral role in these wins, and with the performances he has been putting in recently, Real Madrid fans will definitely be hoping he stays with the team for as long as possible.
