Mbappe 8.0, Mendy 7.5 | Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid: Player ratings

Date:

The trip to San Sebastian proved to be a successful one as Real Madrid earned a well-deserved victory against Real Sociedad.

Los Blancos had their chances throughout the game but the penalties scored by Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe allowed them to get the full three points from this game.

The following ratings reflect how the Real Madrid players fared in this match.

Player ratings:

Thibaut Courtois: 7.0

Kept his third clean sheet in the league this season. Made two important saves, with one of them from a shot taken inside the box. This also happened to be the Belgian’s 100th clean sheet with Real Madrid.

Dani Carvajal: 7.0

As always, defensively solid. Did not let Sociedad’s left winger and left-back cause him any trouble. Cleared the ball and made interceptions regularly, but the Spaniard could have been more involved on the attacking front.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7.0

Another solid outing for the German. Was involved in a good battle with Umar Sadiq and got the better of him for the most part. Had his header saved by Alex Remiro from a free-kick.

Eder Militao: 7.5

The Brazilian continued from where he left off against Betis. Won all his tackles, duels and made crucial interceptions as well. His chemistry with Rüdiger also keeps getting better with each game. Hopefully, he will keep up this form.

Ferland Mendy: 7.5

A much better performance from the Frenchman. Was not reckless, won his tackles, and made some clearances too. Takefusa Kubo was unable to find answers against him and Mendy ultimately won the battle.

Luka Modric: 7.0

At the age of 39, played the entire 90-minutes and had a solid outing. However, clearly got tired in the final few minutes. He is still a reliable choice to take set-pieces in this Madrid side as he almost had an assist to his name but Rüdiger’s shot was saved.

Fede Valverde: 7.5

Yet another pleasing display from the Uruguayan. Played slightly deeper in this match and still managed to control the midfield quite well. A proper number 8 performance.

Arda Güler: 6.5

A rather quiet outing for the Turk. Tried to do stuff when he found empty spaces but, gladly, did not overcomplicate stuff and kept things simple. He was almost the reason Sociedad could have taken the lead but made up for it by earning a penalty. Still, it does seem like the youngster needs time to adapt as a central midfielder and would be better as a number 10 or a right winger for now.

Brahim Díaz: 6.5

Looked quite threatening in the 25 minutes he played. Won a duel, was good at dribbling and caused troubled for Javi Lopez at left-back. The Moroccan may miss the next 2-3 games due to injury.

Vinícius Júnior: 7.5

Quiet in the opening half but was much better in the next half. Caused trouble on the left side, ultimately scoring the first penalty and earning the second one. Looked fatigued at moments, which is understandable because he joined the side just two days before the match.

Kylian Mbappe: 8.0

Despite being unable to score in the first half, this could be his best display in a Madrid shirt so far. Was a menace upfront and was close to scoring twice in the opening half. But was ultimately rewarded with a penalty, which allowed him to score his third goal in the league – fourth for Los Blancos and fourth against Sociedad too.

Substitutes:

Rodrygo: 6.0

Despite playing almost 70 minutes of the game, the Brazilian was unable to make an impact. Sometimes was even invisible in the game. Hopefully, he puts this performance behind him as just a bad game.

Lucas Vazquez: 6.0

Came on for Güler and had a 13-minute cameo. Kept his ground and helped Madrid see out the match.

Endrick: N/A

Not enough time on the pitch to warrant a rating.
