Although Real Madrid have significantly strengthened their attack with the signing of Kylian Mbappe, the team’s midfield is clearly weaker than last season. This is particularly the case as Toni Kroos has retired from football, and the Merengues will have to be very lucky to be able to replace him in their squad.
Although they did not bring in any midfield reinforcement in the recently closed summer transfer window, this does not mean that Los Blancos are not looking to strengthen this area in the months to come.
Seemingly, Real Madrid already have a candidate in mind for this purpose, as they have been linked with the Manchester City midfielder Rodrigo for some time now.
The Spaniard has a contract till 2027 with the Premier League champions, and thus, Real Madrid will have to convince them to part ways with him to be able to incorporate him into their team. But still, Mundo Deportivo reports that City are not really comfortable with the rumours of Real Madrid’s interest in their star midfielder, and thus are prioritising a contract renewal for him.
With this renewal, the Citizens are looking to extend Rodrigo’s stay at their club up to 2029. This renewal will also bring a significant bump to his paycheck and will make him the best-paid player in the Manchester City squad.
Now that they are done with their business in the transfer market, City are now working to secure this renewal as soon as possible.
Their urgency in this operation is understandable as reports from Spain claim that the midfielder is going to be Real Madrid’s main target for the next summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, the player is also considering only these two options, either to renew with City or sign for Real Madrid. But with a lot of time still left till the next summer transfer window arrives, there might be a lot of developments waiting to take place before this move actually takes place.
