Mallorca vs Real Madrid: Match preview

Date:

Real Madrid begin their title defence as they travel to Palma to take on Mallorca at Son Moix in their first match of the 2024/25 La Liga season.

Recently, the Merengues secured the UEFA Super Cup after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Atalanta, with Jude Bellingham putting in a Man of the Match performance and Vinicius, Rodrygo and Mbappe all being involved on the attacking front as well.

The French star combined with Vinicius very well as they switched flanks throughout the game – which is a good sign for the Madridistas.

Carlo Ancelotti has a good squad at his disposal for this match, with Camavinga and Alaba the more notable absences. On paper, the defensive line lacks depth, but the Italian manager believes the club does not need to make another centre-back signing as David Alaba will be returning soon.

Jude Bellingham’s sensational performance against Atalanta just went on to show his versatility and class and there is a lot to look forward to for the fans as he seems to have already made the number 8 position his own.

Moreover, Kylian Mbappe could not have asked for a better start to his Real Madrid career by scoring a goal and also securing a title in his debut game for the club. The Frenchman would be eager to replicate his performance against Mallorca.

As far as the home side is concerned, Mallorca finished 15th last season. They had a fairly underwhelming campaign. However, their buildup to this season has been satisfying, winning 5 out of 6 friendlies they have played.

Jagoba Arrasate was signed as the new manager and further reinforcements have been made to the squad as well. Thus, Mallorca will be looking forward to starting the season on a high in front of their fans.

However, having won six out of the last seven matches against Mallorca, Real Madrid will be fairly confident of getting the job done in their La Liga opener. They won both the games against The Pirates with a 1-0 scoreline last season.

The last time Real Madrid won back-to-back La Liga titles was in 2006/07 and 2007/08. With one of the most balanced squads in Europe, Los Blancos would be eager to repeat that feat and continue their dominance in Spain for yet another season.
