With Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao already fully fit and featuring for Real Madrid in the final stretch of the season, there are only two players still in the infirmary, Aurelien Tchouameni, who suffered an injury following the Bayern Munich game, and David Alaba, who has been recovering from an ACL tear since December.
When the Austrian suffered this injury, it was already believed that he might not be able to play again for his club this season, but the defender was still working to be able to get back into action in time for the UEFA EURO 2024, which is set to kick-off in June.
However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, his participation in this competition is now ruled out as his recovery is not going according to his expectations, and he had to undertake another surgery on his knee after already having undergone an extensive procedure back in December.
This will be a particularly painful blow both for the player himself and the Austrian national team, as he is the captain of his national side, and was expected to be a part of the expedition for the biggest European international tournament.
The latest medical procedure that the defender had to undergo was an arthroscopy, a surgical intervention that is not too extensive and is used mainly to observe, diagnose, or treat various issues related to the knee. The surgery took place in Innsbruck, Austria last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, with his participation in the international tournament ruled out, Real Madrid are hopeful that he will be able to recover in time to be a part of the preseason that Carlo Ancelotti will lead once all the players return to their club after the EURO 2024, at the end of July.
With Nacho possibly leaving this summer, he will be needed more in the next season than he was this season by the Italian tactician.
