Real Madrid resumed their journey in La Liga after the September international break last night with another win against Real Sociedad. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior scored the two penalties for the Merengues, while Real Sociedad had three of their shots come off against the post and the crossbar. The match ended 2-0 in Real Madrid’s favour.
Ancelotti had fewer positives than negatives to take away from this game and even admitted that Real Sociedad deserved to win this match in the post-game presser. There are some clear problems in the team that he will have to solve before they cost his side too much.
But there was another problem that arose specifically from this match, which can also prove to be costly for Los Blancos. Brahim Diaz, who was one of the starters on the night, could play only 23 minutes on the night and had to leave the pitch with an injury.
According to a report from MARCA on this injury, the Moroccan suffered an abductor injury after trying to break through the Real Sociedad defence in the 17th minute of the game. The forward kept on playing for a while, testing his sensations and hoping to shrug off the discomfort but was ultimately unable to continue as he went to the ground in the 23rd minute.
He had to leave the pitch limping after the Real Madrid medical team got to the pitch to help him out. His insistence on trying to shrug off the injury could end up further complicating the issue for him, but for now, he is expected to undergo further tests today on Sunday to determine the exact extent of the injury.
If the problem is not too severe, he is expected to miss the next two or three games, and thus provide Ancelotti with more of a headache as the Italian is already missing several important players due to injuries.
