Although Real Madrid did sign Joselu Mato last summer to cover for the loss of Karim Benzema, it was clear that Carlo Ancelotti’s team has weakened in this key area of the pitch.
Karim Benzema was one of the most important players for the Merengues since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, and his importance in the Real Madrid squad was beyond any question.
It is true that Real Madrid have not missed the Frenchman too much up to this point of the season, as Jude Bellingham has taken over the scoring responsibilities and the team is clicking well overall. However, a world-class striker is still needed to compete with the best teams in Europe going forward.
Kylian Mbappe remains the dream striker for Florentino Perez, but there is another highly-rated striker being linked with Real Madrid. This is the Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who led his Napoli side to win a historic Serie A title last season.
Being one of the best players in his position, he has frequently been linked with Real Madrid in the past. However, now, Napoli’s own President has hinted at the Santiago Bernabeu side being his next destination, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking to the press regarding Osimhen, Aurelio de Laurentiis said the Nigerian has “already made his decision” regarding his future:
“We knew that, otherwise talks over a new deal would not have been that long… Probably last summer he was gonna join Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or an English club.”
There is no doubt that Osimhen would be a great addition to this Real Madrid squad. If Kylian Mbappe does not arrive this summer, Osimhen can be brought to the team by paying his €130 million release clause.
De Laurentiis is infamous for being a hard negotiator and Real Madrid might not be able to get this sum lowered if they want the Nigerian in their team.
