Although he played for only one season with Real Madrid, Jose Antonio Reyes remains one of the more memorable players in the club’s history. The Spaniard played a pivotal role in the Merengues’ triumph in the 2006-07 La Liga season, as it was his brace against Valencia in the last match of the season that won the Merengues the league title.
Reyes died around five years ago in a tragic road accident when he was only 35 years old, and was still playing professionally, with Extremadura U.D. being his last club.
However, his legacy still lives on in Real Madrid, most conspicuously in the form of his son, Jose Antonio Reyes Lopez, who is a part of La Fabrica, currently playing in Juvenil B.
As MARCA has reported, the youngster reached a milestone in his career yesterday, as he trained for the first time for the Real Madrid first team. This was a particularly special moment for the young striker, as it is rare for Juvenil B players to train directly with the first team.
However, keeping in view the game that Arbeloa’s team has tonight, Ancelotti decided not call up players from Juvenil A, and Reyes got this special opportunity.
The youngster joined the Real Madrid youth academy back in 2019, and started his journey with the Infantil B, after starting his career at Leganes. Since then, he has showcased his quality at different levels at La Fabrica and has been a starter at Juvenil B since the last season.
He signed his first professional contract with the Merengues last year and renewed his contract only a week ago. He showed his gratitude to the club for this opportunity to train with the first team. Hopefully, Reyes will keep on building on this trend, and leave a legacy as big as his father’s at Real Madrid.
