The serious injury suffered by Dani Carvajal some weeks ago in the match against Villarreal can determine the moves that Real Madrid is going to make in the coming few months.
This injury has once again emphasised the reinforcements needed in the Merengues’ defence, while also highlighting the need for a long-term replacement of Carvajal, who is already 32 years of age.
For this purpose, Real Madrid have been linked with several fullbacks, with the Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold being the favourite. But there is still a lot of uncertainty whether Los Blancos will bring a new right-back in January or wait till the next summer.
But there are still two months left till the winter window opens, and a new player is urgently needed for this position, as currently there is only Lucas Vazquez available to take this spot in the team.
In such a scenario, MARCA reports that Carlo Ancelotti has decided to keep one of La Fabrica fullbacks, Jesus Fortea, a part of the first-team going forward. The Italian coach is looking to give gradual prominence to the player in his team.
Ancelotti believes Fortea is the best fullback that the youth academy can offer, and will give him his first minutes with the first team in the coming weeks. Although he will not be the first or second choice right-back any time soon, he will still be an interesting option when the Italian decides to give some rest to Vazquez.
This is going to be only the latest step in the spectacular leap that the youngster has made in the Real Madrid youth system. He should naturally have been in the U-19 B team, but is already playing in the Division of Honour. Now, he will be a part of the first team, despite not having been a part of the Real Madrid C (only one game played) and Castilla.
