After securing a victory against Real Sociedad, Real Madrid host VfB Stuttgart in their first match of the UEFA Champions League. Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouaméni return to the squad, with Brahim Díaz being the notable absentee.

As a result of the duo returning, Luka Modric and Arda Güler would be starting the game from the bench.

Here is how Real Madrid can lineup against VfB Stuttgart.

GK: Thibaut Courtois

Kept his 100th clean-sheet for the club and etched his name in Real Madrid’s history books. The Belgian has kept 4 clean-sheets already this season out of 6 and would look to increase that tally.

RB: Dani Carvajal

The ever brilliant Carvajal will start as the right-back without any doubt. He’s had a good season so far – not the best – but will be eager to make the season even better.

CB: Antonio Rüdiger

Perhaps one of the initial names that appears on the team sheet. The German has established himself as an important member of the side and has been solid this season in defence. Would look to replicate his performance from last season – or do things even better.

CB: Éder Militão

There was a slight scare when news came in that the Brazilian was not training with the squad and was alone. But then Ancelotti quashed the news and the 26-year-old will form the pairing in the centre of the defence. The chemistry between Militão and Rüdiger counties to build.

LB: Ferland Mendy

According to reports, the Frenchman has renewed his contract with the club until 2027. Often hailed as the best defensive left-back in European football, he is without a doubt the most underrated player in the squad. His last game was a solid outing where he pocketed Kubo and will want to put in a similar performance in the Champions League opener.

CDM: Fede Valverde

Undoubtedly Madrid’s best player this season, the Uruguayan braces himself for yet another start. Although not purely a defensive midfielder, he will be seen in advanced positions as well at times.

CDM: Aurelien Tchouaméni

The 24-year-old returns to the squad and will surely slot right into the lineup. His presence in the squad will help provide the right balance, make the squad work like a cohesive unit and allow players such as Valverde to play freely, which the Uruguayan was unable to do in Tchouaméni’s absence.

RW: Rodrygo

Despite having a poor outing against Sociedad, the Brazilian will hope to forget that game and put in a much better shift for this match. Everyone knows what this youngster is capable of and he would hope to showcase it otherwise Arda Güler can fit perfectly in this position.

CAM: Jude Bellingham

The Englishman received the award of the best young player in last season’s Champions League for an outstanding campaign. Jude has played in a different position in his two appearances this season and has shown that he possesses the skills and quality to soon be the best midfielder in Europe.

LW: Vinícius Júnior

Even though he had a quiet game against Sociedad, the Brazilian got to silence the crowd by scoring the opening penalty. His tired legs were visible in the dying moments of the previous match but since has trained with the squad and looked fresh ahead of this fixture.

ST: Kylian Mbappe

Man of the Match against Sociedad, the Frenchman will be making his Champions League debut with Madrid and he happens to be quite familiar with this competition. The stage is perfectly set for him: a Champions League night at the Bernabeu. What better than to be on the scoresheet and lead Los Blancos to a victory?
