Eder Militao was one of the players who suffered an injury during the last international break as he had to return early to Real Madrid after his muscle problem that arose while training in the Brazilian national team’s camp.
However, detailed tests on the defender have shown that this is not really a serious issue, and was only a discomfort that resulted from the high number of matches he has played recently.
Thus, he will be among the players that Real Madrid will call up for the upcoming game against Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League. Still, according to MARCA, Ancelotti is not going to start him in this match and has used a rather surprising option in his position in the last training session.
The report mentions that Ancelotti played Carvajal along with Antonio Rudiger in the centre of the defence while playing Lucas Vazquez in the right-back position. His three-man midfield was made up of Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Jude Bellingham, with the latter two having only recovered from their injuries.
Carvajal also spoke to the press after this last training session and assured that he will not have many problems playing in the centre of the defence as he has already done so twice in the past, including against a side as difficult as Atletico Madrid.
Previously, Ancelotti was expected to play Tchouameni in the defence if Militao was not available. However, with all the absences in midfield, the Italian tactician might not have wanted to further deplete his options in the middle of the field and thus trained Carvajal to play in this position.
With Tchouameni and Bellingham returning, Modric and Guler will be on the bench for this upcoming game. Both these players were quite important in the last match against Real Sociedad, and can once again be decisive from the bench in this UCL game.
