Real Madrid continued their winning run with the victory over Espanyol last night. After a goalless first half, Espanyol were able to open the scoring as Thibaut Courtois turned a cross into his own net. However, the Merengues were quick to make amends as Dani Carvajal equalised the scores only four minutes later.

As already reported, with this win, Real Madrid have extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to 38 games, which is a full-season length of games.

As MARCA has reported, Carlo Ancelotti was quite happy with this achievement, and even showed his intent to keep on playing the same way that his team has played up to now:

“We have gone 38 matches without losing, and that’s a fact that shows we are doing things very well and that we will continue to do them very well.”

The Real Madrid gaffer also provided an update on the situation of Dani Carvajal and Jude Bellingham, two players who are facing some physical concerns:

“Carvajal is hurt, he has a knock, nothing serious. Bellingham had an issue with his shoulder that they handled well; it doesn’t seem particularly concerning. He played with protection, a month ago he played without it, and I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.”

Regarding the match itself, the Italian was quite satisfied with the way his team had played:

“In the first half, we moved the ball around a lot and did well. We tried to play through the middle, but it didn’t work out. In the second half, the game opened up, and it was rock and roll.”

“The system was a 4-3-3, but with some adjustments. We wanted to press Espanyol’s three defenders, but today they played more direct.”

There is no doubt that taking his team to 38 matches without a defeat is a considerable achievement for Ancelotti. Hopefully, he will be able to extend this streak even farther and have another very successful season.
