After a rather slow start to his career with Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe was picking up the pace at the Merengue club before his good run of form was interrupted by an untimely muscle injury.
The Frenchman had scored in five consecutive games for Los Blancos before missing what was expected to be his first big game in a Real Madrid shirt, the Madrid derby. However, he suffered a muscle injury in the game against Alaves and was expected to remain out till the end of the upcoming international break.
Without their biggest goal threat, the Merengues were able to get only a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano. However, there was a surprise in the squad announced for the UEFA Champions League game against Lille, as Mbappe was named in this list.
As MARCA has reported, Carlo Ancelotti provided an update on the Frenchman’s condition, as he spoke to the press ahead of the match against Lille. The Italian tactician revealed that a last decision on whether Mbappe can play tonight will be made after today’s training session:
“He recovered well, very quickly. He only trained individually yesterday, but he hasn’t been out for long, so he hasn’t lost his condition. Today he will do the entire training session with the group, and afterward, we’ll make the best decision with him, considering that the last thing we want to do is take a risk.”
“He had a strain. He wanted to travel to play because he feels good. We just need to see how he trains today, and if he feels a hundred percent and there’s no risk, he’ll play from the first minute.”
Ancelotti is right that Mbappe has not had to spend any significant time on the sidelines with this injury, and thus would still likely be in good shape. However, there is no need to take any risks with such an important footballer, and even if he plays tonight, it should only be for a few minutes.
