Real Madrid had to endure another difficult match in La Liga last night against Real Sociedad. Although they did eventually come out as 2-0 winners, it was clear that the team is not performing at a very good level, and Ancelotti has some urgent work to do ahead of the upcoming important phase of the season.

Fortunately, the Italian tactician seems to be aware of the fact that his team is not performing at an optimal level. This was clear from his comments as he spoke to the press after the win against Real Sociedad.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Real Madrid head coach was far from satisfied with this performance, and went on to suggest that his side did not even deserve to win this match:

“It was a very tough match, and we probably didn’t deserve to win. Real pressed us very well and applied a lot of pressure in our half. We held on with sacrifice and commitment, which is not easy to find in a squad with so much quality.”

The Italian trainer went on to identify one of the reasons for this unsatisfactory performance of the team:

“It’s clear that we’re not at 100%. We’re missing almost all of our midfielders, and it’s hard to find balance that way. Valverde, Modric, and Güler did a great job defensively, and I really value that.”

Ancelotti stated that he was still happy with the result, and also with how his players are improving:

“Individually, the players are getting better and better. We’re happy because it was important to start this run of matches with a win. I leave satisfied, but we need to make the necessary critique.”

Real Madrid were truly fortunate to get the full three points in this game. Hopefully, the Merengues will return to their best as they kick-off their favourite competition, the UEFA Champions League, on Tuesday with the match against Monaco.
