Thibaut Courtois was perhaps the biggest centre of attention in the last Madrid derby as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid fought out a ferocious draw. The Colchoneros fans were not too kind to their former goalkeeper as he returned to face them for yet another time after not having tasted defeat against them in his entire career.
Things reached a climax when Real Madrid got ahead in the second half with a goal from Eder Militao. Thibaut Courtois celebrated the goal in front of the fans sitting behind his goal. The fans at that end then started throwing projectiles at the Belgian, which resulted in a brief suspension of the game.
But there was another more enduring pain suffered by Courtois on the night, as he suffered discomfort later in the game and had to ask Valverde to take a goal kick. As MARCA has reported, Real Madrid announced after the game that detailed tests undertaken on him show that he is suffering from an abductor muscle injury in the left leg.
With this issue, Courtois is expected to remain out of action for the next two weeks. Thus, he will be unavailable for the two games against Lille and Villarreal and will return after the end of the next international break for the match against Celta Vigo. Thus, he would be back in time for El Clasico which is scheduled for the end of October.
With this injury, Ancelotti will once again be without the Belgian shot-stopper, who had to miss almost the entirety of the last season due to a torn ACL. But this current injury is not that serious, and hopefully, he will be back soon.
Meanwhile, Lunin will get another opportunity to showcase his talents in the Real Madrid shirt, and with such an able back-up, the Merengues will not have too much to fear.
