Real Madrid 5-0 Alaves: Match review

Date:

The Bernabeu faithful were treated to a goal fest as Real Madrid dominated Alavés on all fronts, with the scoreline reading 5-0 at full-time.

Before kickoff, Los Blancos were given a guard of honor by the opposition, with all of Madrid’s 36 La Liga titles on display.

Carlo Ancelotti fielded a formidable starting lineup with many key players making a return after they were rested for the previous game against Granada.

Thibaut Courtois was forced into action just a few minutes into the game as Alavés striker Samuel Omorodion tried a shot from near the byline.

In the 10th minute, Toni Kroos played a sumptuous long ball to Jude Bellingham inside the box, with the Englishman taking a left-footed shot as the ball ricocheted off the post and into the net.

This goal extended Jude’s tally to 19 in the league this season, keeping him in the hunt for the Pichichi trophy.

Los Blancos continued to dominate the game, as they kept possession, and Alaves’ poor decision-making just helped Madrid do so.

17 minutes later, Bellingham found Eduardo Camavinga near the edge of the box, with the Frenchman easing past the defender and finding Vinícius inside the box who just had to tap the ball in to double their lead.

To add to the away team’s misery, just on the brink of half-time Fede Valverde took an unstoppable shot from quite a tight angle and scored just his 3rd goal of the season.

Despite being down by 3 goals, Alavés did not sit back and continued to try their luck at goal, with Thibaut Courtois being equal to the task of responding to their attacks.

Meanwhile, Bellingham was at his best and continued to be a menace on the field as the Englishman recorded his 2nd assist of the match when Vinícius smashed the 4th goal home in the 70th minute.

Arda Güler came on in the 62nd minute and after being quiet for the initial part of his cameo, the Turkish youngster scored his 4th goal of the season and continues his impressive form.

Though the scoreline would make one think that the Alavés goalkeeper had a horrible day, that was not exactly the case as without some of his saves, his side could have conceded even more than they did.

Talking about goalkeepers, Thibaut Courtois showed why he is regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in world football as the Belgian stopped everything that came his way, making 10 saves in the process.

He also added his name to the history books, as the 32-year-old became the first keeper since Iker Casillas in 2008, to make 10 or more saves in a La Liga game. Moreover, the Belgian also made the most saves in a single match by a Real Madrid keeper since the 2015/16 season.

It turned out to be a thumping win thanks to a brace from Vinícius and goals from Valverde, Bellingham, and Güler.

Carlo Ancelotti has given his side three days to rest before they return to training to take on Villareal at La Ceramica on Sunday.
