Joselu 8.5, Vinicius 9.0 | Real Madrid 2-1 Bayern Munich: Player ratings

Date:

Real Madrid secured a hard-fought victory against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the semi-finals, booking their spot in the UEFA Champions League final for the 18th time. They are set to face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium, eyeing their 15th UCL title.

Carlo Ancelotti started the game with the best possible lineup and they were clearly the better side until Bayern Munich took the lead. The substitutes were on point and it was Joselu who stood out, as the 34-year-old scored a brace and tiptoed his side to the final of the premier European competition.

Here is how the Real Madrid players fared in the 2-1 victory against Bayern Munich.

Player Ratings:

Andriy Lunin: 7.0

Had a fairly decent game in between the sticks. The Ukrainian made some fine saves, especially in the second half. Was good when the ball was at his feet and cleared it when needed. However, the Ukrainian could not get anywhere near Davies’ shot at goal.

Dani Carvajal: 7.0

The Spaniard looked in form upon his return to the side after missing the 1st leg. Handled Serge Gnabry well but Alphonso Davies did cause him quite a few problems. Made a crucial block to Musiala’s shot.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7.5

His job was to keep Harry Kane quiet and that is exactly what he did. Did not let the Englishman have a sniff at goal except when he was unmarked in the first half and forced a save off Lunin. Another memorable night for the German as he also assisted Joselu for the second goal.

Nacho: 7.0

A better performance than the captain as compared to the outing he had at the Allianz Arena. Good display defensively. Played the pass to Rüdiger in the buildup to the second goal.

Ferland Mendy: 7.5

The Frenchman came prepared against Leroy Sané and kept the winger quiet while he was on the pitch. Linked up well with Vinícius upfront and also made a crucial interception when Bayern were on the counter attack. Yet again repaid Ancelotti’s faith in him. Arguably one of the best defensive left-backs in the world.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 7.0

A decent night for the defensive midfielder and did what was asked of him. Lost possession four times but won duels and made some clearances and interceptions as well. Also, Real Madrid remain unbeaten when he starts.

Toni Kroos: 8.0

Another day, another masterclass by the German veteran. 94% accurate passes and played as many as 18 long balls during his time on the pitch. Dictated the play and also made an important interception which could have let Sané through on goal.

Fede Valverde: 7.0

A usual day at the office for the Uruguayan. Did his job effectively and also had a few attempts on goal. Surprised to see him subbed off though. Provided immense work rate throughout his time on the field.

Jude Bellingham: 7.0

Took painkillers before the game started due to discomfort in his knee. Struggled a bit initially but then played his part in the team’s victory. Played a pass to Viní which ultimately led to the equalizer.

Vinícius Júnior: 9.0

The Brazilian wreaked havoc on the left wing, with Kimmich – and De Ligt at times – struggling to contain him. Could have scored a hat trick if Manuel Neuer was not at his best.

Despite not being involved in either of the goals, he won the Man of the Match award, which just goes on to show that there is always more to the game than scoring or assisting. Sensational night for the 23-year-old and one of the best performances by the Brazilian winger in recent times.

Rodrygo: 6.5

Would be gutted not to have scored at least a brace. Other than that, was fairly quiet and should be glad that his missed chances did not cost Real Madrid the game. A decent performance which could have been even better.

Substitutes:

Luka Modrić: 7.5

Even at the age of 38, the Croatian midfielder has proven to be a game-changer this season, coming off the bench in most of the games. Another night where he showed his brilliance and played an important part in both the goals.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.0

Proved to be an able replacement for his fellow countryman, Tchouaméni. Made a couple of interceptions and won a few duels as well. Provided the team with fresh legs when needed.

Joselu: 9.5

Build this man a statute outside the Bernabeu. From watching a Champions League final live as a fan, to scoring a brace and becoming a hero by taking Madrid to the final this year. Life has come full circle for the veteran striker.

Brahim Díaz: 6.5

Had a lively cameo. Took on the defenders and did not overdo stuff. Kept it simple.

Éder Militão: N/A

Came on for the final few seconds and had just one touch. Hence, not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
