Real Madrid have won the race for promising Puerto Rican winger – Romano

Date:

As far as signing ‘prodigies’ are concerned, Real Madrid usually signs them from South America with Endrick being the latest addition and there also being recent links with another talent, Kaua Elias.

Signing someone from North America is quite rare to see, but recently the Merengues secured the signature of Puerto Rican winger, Jeremy De Leon from CD Castellon – according to Fabrizio Romano.

This makes Jeremy just the 2nd player from Puerto Rico to ever sign for Real Madrid, with Eduardo Ordonez being the first one to wear the white jersey back in 1926/27.

This season, the winger refused to sign a new deal with CD Castellon and also has had a sporadic role with the club so far. However, his stock remains high.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, two other La Liga clubs – reportedly Valencia and Villareal – were interested in him, but his heart was set on Real Madrid when they approached him. The winger will arrive in Madrid in the next few days with the medical already set to take place.

He grabbed the opportunity with both hands as soon as Real Madrid came calling, because only a few lucky ones get the chance to don the Royal White jersey.

De Leon is a pacy winger who can out-muscle defenders. He was first spotted by scouts in Sheffield in 2019 and since then, while playing in Spain, he is catching more eyes.

The Puerto Rican winger will join the Castilla side as a replacement for Peter Federico, who is likely to leave the club to join Valencia in the ongoing transfer window.

Jeremy De Leon would want to follow the footsteps of several prodigies – such as Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo – and he would want to make a name for himself as a North American at the prestigious white club.
