Real Madrid brought Fran Garcia this summer to bolster their left-back position, as Ferland Mendy has not been particularly impressive in the last season and also faced a difficult year with respect to physical problems.

Fran Garcia had a promising start to his La Liga career and was one of the most prominent players for Rayo Vallecano during his stint at the Madrid club. Last season, he appeared in all 38 matches for Vallecano, scoring two goals and giving three assists. These performances were good enough for Real Madrid to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu to rotate with Ferland Mendy.

Unfortunately, his start to this season at Real Madrid has not exactly been impressive. He has shone at times, giving two assists in the match against Real Sociedad and winning the Man of the Match award, but his defensive mistakes have also cost the team goals, particularly in the match against Getafe.

However, ESPN reports that Real Madrid are interested in getting another player for this position, especially as Ferland Mendy’s long-term presence in Real Madrid is not certain. This player is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, whose future at Bayern Munich is also far from certain.

The Canadian fullback has emerged as one of the best players in the left-back position in recent years and has already won multiple titles in Germany, including five Bundesliga trophies and a UEFA Champions League title.

Davies’ current contract at Munich runs till 2025, and he has not yet reached an agreement for a renewal with the Bavarians. Thus, Bayern can be tempted to sell the fullback before his contract runs out, and he ends up leaving the club for free.

Real Madrid are not the only club keenly monitoring the 22-year-old fullback, though. Manchester City are also interested in the player as they look to strengthen their left-back position. Pep Guardiola has been playing the recently signed Josko Gvardiol in this position lately, although the Croatian performs the best at the center of the backline.
